NCMH Lead Researchers take to the Stage
Professor Julie Williams and Dr Ian Jones from the National Centre for Mental Health (NCMH) will be showcasing their research at the Hay Festival and Cheltenham Science Festival this summer.

Professor Julie Williams
Professor Julie Williams will be presenting at 4pm on Wednesday 6 June. In her session, ‘What We Know About Alzheimer’s’, Julie will be assessing the future impact of Alzheimer’s disease, and examining how far we have come in understanding its causes, what we need to do now to prevent and treat future disease and the human cost to individuals and families.
On Saturday 9 June at 11.30am, Dr Ian Jones will be giving his session, ‘Motherhood and the Mind – the link between childbirth and madness’. Ian will be examining the link between mental illness and childbirth and how improving our understanding of this will bring enormous benefit to those affected.

Ian will also be at the Cheltenham Science Festival. On Friday 15 June he’ll be giving a session called, ‘More Than Baby Blues’. He’ll be presenting with Clare Dolman, Bipolar UK Chair of Trustees, member of Action Postpartum Psychosis and Bipolar Disorder Research Network champion and Tracy Vicker, a volunteer for the Wales Mental Health Network. Then on Saturday 16 June Cardiff sciSCREEN will be showing the film ‘Take Shelter’ and Ian, alongside a sociologist, historian and meteorologist, will explore some of the themes raised in the film such as psychosis, risk and uncertainty, family relations and the power of storms.
